1. Thursday Love List

    June 30, 2011

    Happy Thursday! This week’s love list doesn’t have a particular theme or anything–it’s just a little collection of what I consider the epitome of my style. It includes lots of my favorite colors (turquoise, pink, and gray), as well as some of my favorite wedding details (textured gowns, gorgeous furniture, mason jars). Hope you all are relishing in all your favorite things this week too. :)

    {Possibly the most gorgeous bridal shot I’ve ever seen…the perfect dress, her hair, the bouquet, the sunflower field, and oh my gosh, I need that bench. Definitely my favorite picture of the week! From Style Me Pretty}

    {Such a beautiful room…and did I mention this wedding took place in L’Auberge des Adrets in the south of France? Le sigh. From Style Me Pretty}

    {I love this fresh take on a seaside wedding on Green Wedding Shoes… so different from the typical New England nautical or all-blue-and-white-with-some-seashells-scattered-around. How pretty are those glass bottles?}

    {Baby’s breath in a turquoise mason jar will always be one of my favorite centerpieces! From Style Me Pretty}

    {So. Freakin. Cute! Plus, gotta love a DIY that anyone can do, for pretty much any reason–personalized bunting would be just as fun for a birthday party, baby shower, etcetera, etcetera. From Style Me Pretty}

    {Turquoise, pink, gray, cake stands, and gorgeous flowers…I could not imagine a more inspiring office than the Hey Gorgeous headquarters! Rhi, if I bring cupcakes, can I come visit? :)}

    Wishing you all a beautiful day!

    Love,

    Lisa

  2. Peach and Plum

    June 29, 2011

    It’s pretty much one of my catch phrases here on Something Pretty that inspiration can come from anywhere. And by that, I mean that I got the inspiration for this board while eating fruit salad. My boyfriend and I both love summer peaches, and I started thinking about how to incorporate summer fruits into a wedding vision. The result? A slightly rustic, imperfectly-matched board full of peaches, dark purple accents, and a whole assortment of summery flowers.

    It’s a little different, and not as cohesive as my other inspiration boards have been (you can go back and see them all on my Inspiration Boards page), but I think it still works! You can find all the photo credits here, on Style Me Pretty. What’s inspiring you today?

    Love,

    Lisa

  3. The First Event

    June 28, 2011

    The majority of the time, the weddings and elaborate engagement shoots are planned and styled by the brides, if not by professional planners. For the proposal, on the other hand, the groom-to-be gets to plan things his way. I love the different ways guys choose to be creative for such a special moment. As you’ll see from these fabulously photographed proposals, they can vary from incredibly elaborate to simple and sweet, but they’re all romantic, sentimental, and pretty darn perfect!

     {This couple’s first date was at Starbucks, so naturally, the groom created a Starbucks in the woods, complete with the same drinks they had on the first date, mugs from places they had been together, and a “Wi-Fy” sign! So adorable, and what a great story! Featured on Green Wedding Shoes}

    {A scavenger hunt to an Anthropologie-inspired beach set up, a love letter, and the sunset… so romantic, and a beautiful spin off of the typical beach engagement. This is one of my favorites! Featured on Ruffled}

    {Here’s the definition of elaborate! The groom surprised his bride with a package of letter-pressed instructions… leading her all the way to Rome, where he proposed! Read the whole adorable story on Style Me Pretty}

    {I love how this proposal combines simplicity and uniqueness. A pretty white chair and a fence full of bright balloons and pictures of the couple is a sweet and simple backdrop. Then add a singing groom and his barbershop quartet, and you have a completely fun and spirited proposal! Featured on Green Wedding Shoes}

    What’s your favorite proposal story? :)

    Love,

    Lisa

  4. Classic Virginia Beach Wedding

    June 27, 2011

    Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! I’m so happy to be starting off the week with my first real wedding feature. Rachel and Chris are two of the nicest people ever, and they could not be more perfect for each other–or cuter together, for that matter! Rachel shared the stories of their March wedding in Virginia Beach with me, and the details and special moments were all captured by Katie Stoops Photography. Enjoy!

    {What was your overall vision for your wedding?}
    We wanted it to be classy and welcoming, but most of all, FUN. Since a lot of my family from Missouri was traveling in for the wedding, a lot of our guests made it a whole weekend. We did a lot of hospitality to draw out the “welcoming” vibe–we made welcome baskets full of wine from Williamsburg Winery, Virginia Peanuts, yummy treats, a tourist guide to Virginia Beach, tickets to see the Cape Henry lighthouse, and a schedule of events for the weekend. We hosted breakfast on Friday and Saturday and provided transportation to and from the wedding and reception. We also had the reception in two different locations within the venue so that people weren’t in one room for too long.

     {Tell me about your dress}
     This was my FAVORITE part of wedding planning, which I owe totally to the owners of the boutique where I found my dress. I decided to go look for a dress alone so I could have that one moment in the whole planning process that I could savor by myself. I went to Ava Clara Couture Bridal in Virginia Beach. Since they work by appointment only, I was the only one in the entire shop, and both of the owners waiting on me and helping me find a dress. They weren’t pushy at all, but so fun—just truly beautiful women. The dresses they picked for their inventory are so beautiful. I could have taken any one of them and been happy. The dress I did end up with was Mercedes from Augusta Jones. I knew that I’d always wanted an all-lace dress, and it was the one! I liked the place so much that I got my bridesmaid dresses, which were Priscilla of Boston, from them as well.

     {What was your favorite moment of the big day?}
    Ahh… the whole day! I think my favorite moments were when I finally got to see Chris and get married to him. I also totally loved hanging out with the bridal party on the beach taking pictures. Our photographer was so stinking cool, and so we had a lot of fun taking pictures. Also, the dancing was great!

     {Was there anything you wished you had done differently?}
    I would have gotten our reception venue to get everything in writing. The staff at the Lesner was the only stress we had, because they promised some things over and over again verbally that they refused to carry through with on the night of the reception. And they were big things—like closing off the lower level of the venue when they told us that we fulfilled the budget for both, not passing out the cake to everyone (we had a huge amount leftover and tons of people didn’t get any), and closing the bar early.

     {What would your advice be to brides planning their weddings?}
    Two things: First, make it about the marriage. It really set ours off on a good foot because the whole day wasn’t about “the bride,” it was about us and celebrating with our friends and family. Second, get everything from your vendors in writing!

  5. Thursday Love List by Chichi Couture

    June 23, 2011

    Happy Thursday! Since I’m in Austin for a few days, I thought I would have one of my gorgeous friends guest post today’s Thursday Love List. Jackie and I met during out freshman year at Franciscan University in Ohio, and even though we both transferred away, we recently got back in touch and bonded over our mutual love of blogging, fashion, and weddings of course! Hope you all enjoy, and be sure to check out Jackie’s fabulous fashion blog at Chichi Couture!

    Hello, readers! I’m Jackie, from Chichi Couture, and my sweet friend, Lisa, has asked me to do a guest post on her blog – I’m so excited! I’ll be filling in for her “Thursday Love List,” and I’ll be sharing some of my favorite wedding details!

    When I’m browsing different wedding blogs, I find myself drawn to the natural-rustic-elegant style. I fall in love with almost all of the weddings in that category. I love dresses that look fashion-forward and editorial, as well as the dresses whose fabric looks as light as air, outdoor receptions with strings of lights, and classy cakes. I hope you enjoy my favorites!

    {My favorite wedding dress. Ever. If I could wear this for my wedding, my cake could fall on the floor and I’d still be the happiest person ;)}

    {Beautiful fabric and adorable shoes!}

    {Outdoor reception}

    {Leaving to sparklers}

    {I love her bouquet of daisies…}

    {As well as her orchid bouquet!}

    {Here’s another one of my favorites. The detailing on this cake is perfect!}

    {I want my hair to have a natural wavy look…}

    {Or a messy up-do with a pretty hairpiece.}

    {And I would love to have a photo booth set-up :)}

    Happy wedding planning, everyone!

    It’s been fun :)

    Jackie
