Mismatched ‘Maids

June 14, 2011

Bridesmaid dresses can be a tricky thing to figure out. Brides want a look that’s cohesive and complementary to their wedding vision, while still flattering her friends’ various figures, not breaking their banks, and hopefully choosing something they’ll want to wear again. One of the easiest ways to achieve this is with mismatched bridesmaid dresses, which happens to be one of my favorite things about weddings in 2011. There are a few ways to do this, from different styles in the same color, to completely different dresses all together. (Just please…no dyed shoes, no matter what the David’s Bridal ads say!)

{Same pretty blush pink in all different styles, on Ruffled}

{Different dresses in shades of teal, on Style Me Pretty}

{Different dresses in slightly different shades of peach, on Southern Weddings}

{All different dresses in different shades of pink and yellow–even different lengths, on Style Me Pretty}

{Similar but slightly different dresses in all different colors, on Style Me Pretty}

{All different dresses in a muted vintage color palette, on Style Me Pretty}

{Different styles and different colors/patterns, while still going together, on Green Wedding Shoes. A triumph, if you ask me!}

How are/did/would you outfit your best girls?

  1. i prefer the similar color palettes over all different colors. it looks more bridesmaidy in pictures!

  2. i think it would be too stressful to do what the last bride did. as cool as it looks, i bet it wasnt easy! i also prefer the similar color palettes.

  3. I don’t know how you get all the different dresses coordinated. Seems like you’d always have one wacky bridesmaid who picked something that just didn’t “go,” but all these brides made it work, so I guess it’s possible!

    Did you see the article on Miranda Lambert’s wedding in Us Weekly last month? Her bridesmaids wore mismatched gowns and mismatched cowboy boots.

  4. Haha! I would imagine the bride picks out a bunch of different dresses for the bridesmaids to pick from… that’s what I would do anyway :) I’ll be sure to look up that article, thanks for letting me know about it!
