1. Weekly Sweet

    November 30, 2011

    It might be the hardest thing ever to keep December Weekly Sweets weekly, rather than, well, daily. There are just too many tasty treats out there that are perfect for winter! I’ll be pinning all my favorite ideas on my “Holidays” board on Pinterest, so if once a week just isn’t enough (it sure isn’t for me!), then be sure to follow me there.

    {The Perfect Mix: Hot Cocoa Mix with Kahlua}

    Enjoy it as: the cutest DIY wedding or party favor, mixed up on Christmas Eve, or anytime you feel like kicking back and getting in the spirit for the holidays!

    My sweet friend, Rhiannon of Hey Gorgeous, came up with this fabulous DIY project, and I have been itching to try it ever since she posted all the pretty pictures that Jenna McKenzie took. Did I mention there’s Ghiradelli Chocolate Peppermint Squares in that jar? Favorite! I can only imagine how yummy they would be melted in hot cocoa, finished off with a splash of kahlua. Find the step-by-step on Hey Gorgeous…or skip the project and just make it for yourself in your favorite Christmas mug! :)

    Love,

    Lisa

    P.S. I’ve been working super hard this week to compile my new “Daily Inspirations” list, which you can now find at the top of my blog instead of on the sidebar. This is the list of blogs and websites I visit regularly, and get tons of inspiration from. Check it out–maybe you’ll find a new favorite to follow! :)

  2. Friday Love List

    September 30, 2011

    I had these beautiful pictures all picked out for yesterday, but somehow a post didn’t seem to happen…c’est la vie! I’ve been  trying to get ahead as much as I can on schoolwork because in exactly one week, I’ll be in Virginia getting ready for my best friend’s wedding. Seriously, I cannot even think about it right now, because I get too excited and can’t concentrate on anything else! Y’all will be hearing a bit about her and her wedding over the next few weeks from me, I am quite sure! She shared her adorable engagement pictures with me a few months ago, so check them out here if you haven’t seen them. :) Anyways! Without further ado, the first (and hopefully only) Friday love list with some gorgeous inspiration from the week!

    {I love mason jars to the core, but I don’t love how often they look similar. It’s one thing to use them, it’s another to use them the same way as everyone else, right? This white painted mason jar look was definitely one I’ve never seen before, and I am all over it. What do you think? From Style Me Pretty}

    {This picture is from a Ruffled wedding that was posted on Tuesday…the day after I made my Sweet Pops of Red inspiration board, unfortunately, because how perfect would this be on it? Daisies are my favorite, and I think the names written right on the table are adorable}

    {This shot is from a Ralph Lauren inspired wedding shoot that was posted on Style Me Pretty about a year ago. I stumbled on it while looking for inspiration board pictures and fell in love with the perfectly rustic-glam concept and sophisticated details}

    {I’m not a fan of frilly, girly boutonnieres, so I think these cotton bouts are perfect, not to mention so fun and different! Cotton can be incorporated into a bridal bouquet gorgeously, which you can clearly see in this Southern Weddings feature}

    {All-baby’s-breath is one of my favorite bouquets, and this was only solidified when I saw this one on La Petite Coquin! They were the perfect complement to an adorable Cape Cod wedding, complete with a clambake, newspaper table runners (be still, my journalism major heart!), and a seriously cute couple}

    {The best part about my Thursday Love List being moved to Friday is that now I can include this! I was so excited to see this wedding by the one and only Rhiannon of Hey Gorgeous (the blog I’m on on most Thursdays!) on Style Me Pretty yesterday. It was nothing short of stunning and if you don’t head over to the feature asap to see the rest of the pictures, you are missing out! These two shots are my favorites! :)}

    Hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and enjoy the last day of September! Seriously, where did the month go!?

    Love,

    Lisa

  3. Sweet Pops of Red

    September 27, 2011

    It’s been a little while since I posted an inspiration board, and to be honest, it took me awhile to find inspiration for this one. Thankfully, I save links to my favorites list under a “Future Inspiration” folder that I eagerly referred to. It brought me back to an adorable Grey Likes Weddings wedding from a few weeks ago that, in my opinion, used “pops of color” perfectly. It’s not too pushy or showy, but it still stands out. With that in mind, I put together this board!

    {Sweet Pops of Red}

    {Bouquet: Style Me Pretty| Bird cake topper: Ruffled| Bunting: Grey Likes Weddings| Milk glasses with barbershop striped straws: Style Me Pretty| Flower girl with a parasol: Style Me Pretty| Pie pops: Style Me Pretty| Bride and groom: Style Me Pretty| Tablescape: Style Me Pretty}

    Red is a strong color, but I think using it subtly is one of the big factors that separates a unique wedding from a “David’s Bridal catalog” wedding. I think the bridesmaids in this inspiration board’s wedding would wear dove gray or maybe even soft beige as opposed to cherry red, as might be expected. I do hope the bride would rock some red shoes though…or at least some red-soled shoes! ;)

    Love,

    Lisa

  4. Weekly Sweet

    September 26, 2011

    A little something darling for your Monday morning…

    {Lattice-Top Blueberry Pie in a Jar}

    Enjoy it at: a late summer afternoon wedding in a country barn, either as a delicious dessert or a homey favor.

    Pies have definitely taken over cupcakes as the wedding “it treat,” but even so, just like cupcakes will still never lose their cuteness, pies will never lose their charm–especially when covered in a lattice top and baked in a mason jar! I’ve never made pies in jars, but I absolutely want to try this recipe from The Family Kitchen with some end-of-summer blueberries. Have you ever tried making something like this? Advice appreciated! ;)

    Have a sweet day!

    Love,

    Lisa

  5. DIY Flower Pin

    September 12, 2011

    I’ve never posted a DIY on my blog before, so I am quite excited for today!

    I made this flower pin over the weekend because I want to add some signature UT burnt orange to my game day outfit, but these would be so cute pinned on bridesmaid dresses, on headbands, and really, wherever you think they would work. I used this tutorial, and it took me about fifteen minutes. Super easy!

    Supplies: Fabric (I used my orientation t-shirt that I will never wear in public :P), thread, needle, button, safety pin, scissors

    1. Cut a piece of fabric about an inch thick and 40 inches long…more or less depending on the size you want. I just cut off the bottom of my t-shirt and chopped off the seam.

    2. Stitch one of the sides down to anchor your thread.

    3. Sew a running stitch all along one edge of your fabric. This part takes the longest!

    It will end up like this!

    4. Carefully pull on the thread so all your fabric bunches up.

    5. Wind the scrunched fabric up, layering it over top of itself, to make it look like a flower.

    6. Sew through all the layers to keep them together. Obviously, I was not very meticulous while doing this, as you can see by the way-out-there white stitches every so often. :P

    7. Sew your button onto the top of the flower. Feel free to use a much cuter button that I did,  if you have one handy!

    8. Flip the flower over and sew the middle together a bit more, if needed.

    9. Sew a safety pin or pin back to the back of the flower.

    Finished product in action!

    So there we go, first blog DIY–check! What do you think? :)

    Love,

    Lisa
