Cocktails and Desserts Birthday Party: Details

My number one priority for my birthday party was making it really reflect my style. I used some fun products from Minted’s Party Decor site and combined them with pieces I already had (like gold charger plates and gold dipped mason jars from my Christmas party), and a few DIY projects. Since this was a cocktails and desserts party, the focal points were naturally the coffee table covered in sweet treats and the champagne bar, and I was so happy with how everything turned out!

I decided to make my coffee table into the dessert table, so people could enjoy as much as they wanted without going back and forth. Adding details like colorful sprinkles and cupcakes flags to mini brownies, lemon cakes, and vanilla cupcakes from Whole Foods and a cheesecake from the grocery store made the desserts a little more special, and it was super easy. Considering my oven was broken the day before the party, I’m glad I didn’t put baking on my to-do list the day of.

The champagne bar was a big hit–I bought a bottle of Sofia champagne (recommended by my cocktail-expert friend Lena!) and a bottle of prosecco, and then provided tasty mix-ins, like peach liqueur and grapefruit juice. Everyone loved coming up with their own combinations and sharing the best ones. Since I don’t have real champagne glasses and didn’t want to spend a fortune on them, I was thrilled to find these cute peach plastic flutes at Target, which I decorated with stickers from Minted. I also served a few salty snacks in my normal plastic bowls, which my wonderful photographer added gold striped washi tape to. Such a cute and easy detail!

The last purchase I made on the day of the party was the bouquet of colorful ranunculus I placed on the dessert table–I had planned on getting different shades of pink, but when I saw this pretty bunch, I knew it would pop against everything I was planning to use perfectly. It ended up being my favorite detail of the whole party, and they’re now looking pretty darn gorgeous sitting on my desk!

Check in tomorrow for a few shots from the party!

Y’all, I am having a hard time not thinking about Christmas till after Thanksgiving this year. I am usually so adamant about it, but too many fun things are going on this year and I can’t possibly ignore them! First of all, I’m planning a little Christmas party the weekend after Thanksgiving. I’ve never really planned and styled a party exactly how I wanted it, so to say I’m excited is an understatement! The week after next, I’ll start sharing the inspiration board and some of the fun details I’ve been working on, and I hope you’ll enjoy them. I certainly have been :) Second of all, I went to a wonderful “HoliDIY” Christmas crafting event last night at Anthropologie, hosted by Camille Styles. I met Camille at The Cream in January and it is always so lovely to see her. My friend Jen and I also made it onto the Anthropologie instagram account! See if you can find us :)

{The most exciting news of the week in the wedding world is that Southern Weddings V5 is officially out, and every page is just breathtaking! My favorite shoot so far is the “My Kentucky Rose” shoot, a romantic take on the Kentucky Derby. Isn’t that cake one of the most beautiful cakes you’ve ever seen? {I was so excited to see my friend Emily of Bird Dog Wedding‘s work on her favorite blog this week! The woodland bridal shower she styled is rustic boho perfection, and I love the chalkboard calligraphy. By Paige Newton Photography via 100 Layer Cake}

{Joy Thigpen is one of my favorite stylists, and I absolutely loved her take on a wedding full of fall colors. That Virginia venue has my heart skipping a beat! By Eric Kelley Photography via Once Wed}

{Speaking of Virginia weddings, I loved seeing this apple orchard wedding this week. It’s so different from the Virginia apple orchard wedding I posted a few weeks ago, but the charming, rustic atmosphere is just as perfect. By Sarah Jane Winter via Snippet and Ink}

{My dream reception venue has a few very specific features: exposed brick walls, huge windows, and hardwood floors, to name a few. After seeing these pretty rustic tables lined with bud vases, I may have to add wood tables to that list. By Eli Turner Studios via Style Me Pretty}

What are you up to this weekend? I will be enjoying Southern Weddings V5, having a sleepover with my sorority sisters, and staying as far away from the Formula 1 race traffic as possible. :P Have a good one!

Spring has officially sprung, and already, it has brought so many new beginnings! You may have noticed a few changes around Something Pretty lately, but if not, take a look at my adorable new social media buttons (from Twenty Three Oh One) and the FOUR beautiful ads that I’m thrilled to be sharing. I just transferred over to self-hosting to have more creative freedom with this little blog, and welcoming advertisements of products and companies that I love is incredibly exciting to me! Be sure to take a look and let me know what you think :) Now, on to some of the gosh darn prettiest spring inspiration out there this week…

{Styled Creative and Alison Conklin are basically a dream team…remember their work on this amazing photo shoot? I love that they teamed up again to style and shoot this darling dessert table. By Alison Conklin Photography via Elizabeth Anne Designs}

{I was SO thrilled for one of my best blog friends, Jillian from Mimi Nicole, this week, because a shoot she styled landed on Style Me Pretty’s bridal shower week! It is so gorgeous and elegant, and you will seriously be missing out if you don’t go look at every picture :) By Craig & Eva Sanders via Style Me Pretty}

{More blog friend love! This time, it’s Bethany from Rinse.Repeat.‘s SURPRISE New Year’s Eve wedding…that’s right, her guests (including parents!) showed up thinking they were at her engagement party, and instead, found a wedding! So incredible, and what’s even better is that the gorgeous flowers and coordinating were handled by sweet friend Jacin of Lovely Little Details. By Flory Photo via Style Me Pretty}

{I’m sure I’m not the only one delighting in the fact that the mint craze has made its way to bridal! Hoping to see lots more bridesmaid dresses in this perfect spring shade in the months to come. By Honey Honey Photography via 100 Layer Cake}

What are you loving in this first week of spring? Have a wonderful weekend!

Bold Wedding Stripes

It’s been ages since I did a round-up of inspiration images or products on Something Pretty, partially because they’re a bit too time consuming to do regularly while I’m in school, and partially because I still write them twice a week for my fabulous internship (you can check out my posts on the Occasions website every Friday)! Regardless, this detail is one that I’m loving way too much to not dedicate a whole post to. :)

I have practically a closet full of stripes, but nothing quite as bold as the thick black and white stripes I’ve been spotting all over the blog world–in fashion, interior design, and my obvious favorite, weddings. Here are some of my favorite ways that stylish brides have been incorporating this graphic touch into their big days!

For those of us who love this look but aren’t quite in the wedding planning stage (ahem, like me!), I made this mini inspiration board. I’m a serious beginner in Photoshop, so advice is welcome. :)

What’s your favorite striped look? I’m also loving the ideas of a boldly striped wedding cake, or striped bridesmaid skirts…the short black and white Flynn skirt by Anne M. Cramer, perhaps?
